Hi, I’m trying to learn how to do SEO for YouTube videos.

This is what I understand so far:

The video should have a title and description with the right keywords
The thumbnail can also include keywords
Add time stamps to the video
Use tags and hashtags

Is there anything else I should know? I’d really like some help

Make a super eye-catching thumbnail so more people want to click on it.

One key thing I don’t see in your notes is this: you should only upload really good quality videos so they can rank better and keep growing.

You’re doing great! Grab people’s attention right at the start, get them to like and comment, and try using playlists. You can pin a comment with helpful words or links too. YouTube search rules change a lot, so keep trying new ideas!

Thumbnails should use more words than pictures. The words can really grab people’s attention and make them curious. Then the picture helps the words, which can make more people want to click.

Also, grab people’s attention in the first 9 seconds, reply to comments, and spread your video in different places.

Yes, you’re right—using the right keywords in many places can help. But I think the biggest things are making good videos and keeping people watching for a long time. That shows YouTube your videos are helpful and fun. YouTube’s goal is to keep people on the site, so it shares videos that people enjoy watching.

Add about 4–7 tags in your intro during the first half minute of the video.
For the description, write around 480–520 characters and include 4–7 tags too.
Use timestamps—they really help—and add keywords to them.

Other stuff matters less. The big thing is your title should look a bit like what others in your space are using—that part is very important. Also, don’t forget your thumbnail! You can follow a similar style, but don’t copy it exactly.

Most of all, make a good video. If your video is too short or not as good as others, tags and hashtags won’t fix it. Good content always matters most.

Make a fun thumbnail that grabs people’s eyes fast.
Use a title that makes them want to watch right away.

Tags do not seem super important now like before.

SEO mostly helps videos people search for, like how to set up Windows or how to knot a tie.

Thanks everyone.

Do you think adding videos to playlists helps YouTube SEO a little? I heard it can help videos get around 3% more views, but I’m not sure.

You’re doing good so far, bro. Just keep your videos fun and easy to watch. If people stay interested, you could get a few more clicks and more people may find your channel over time.
